The Russian invasion of Ukraine has created a humanitarian crisis, with an estimated 4.9 million Ukrainians, mostly women and children, fleeing their home country. While Russia continues to unleash senseless death and destruction in Ukraine, there are many organizations and charities trying to help provide for these refugees.
There are several options for people who want to contribute and support these efforts, which are mainly based in border countries like Poland, Romania, and Moldova, since it is too dangerous in Ukraine for volunteers on site.
The most effective way to support Ukrainian refugees is through the following:
CARE- This relief group provides the basic necessities such as food and water to the families affected by this invasion. This group has made it easy to donate online by simply clicking the dollar amount you choose to contribute or other amount of your choice. If you would like to donate, you can do so here.
International Committee of the Red Cross- This group that is based out of Switzerland supports the Ukrainian Red Cross by helping people who have been affected by the Ukrainian war. Donate by clicking here and selecting either a monthly or one-time donation and dollar amount with your billing information.
Save the Children- This organization provides clean drinking water, personal hygiene kits, and psychological and educational assistance to Ukrainian kids. Donations can be made by clicking here.
World Central Kitchen- This organization, established by chef Jose Andres, supplies meals to people in need worldwide. As of now he is giving these fresh meals to Ukrainian refugees located at the Polish border. You can support this organization by clicking here.
UNICEF- This emergency fund aids in health and nutrition, education, and fresh drinking water for the families affected by the Russian invasion. Support this organization by donating here.
Most charaties agree that donating cash to these organizations is the best way to support these people most in need. Since the resources are needed quickly in Ukraine, these charities can get the donations transferred from their bank to a local bank in Ukraine. Monetary donations are more helpful than donating goods and other items because it could take months to get these items transferred between countries and could be more expensive, usually more than what the items are worth.
If everyone does their part across the world and gives whatever they can, this would certainly help make a difference in the lives of these innocent people.
