War in Ukraine highlights ineffectiveness of UN

As the Ukraine-Russia conflict gets worse, Many people are wondering what the United Nations can do to intervene in the conflict. The problem with the UN is that they have no real power on the international stage.

While they do have the power to create an international force made up of militaries from different nations, they only deploy them in the rarest conditions, and they would not deploy them for this conflict. Another problem is that Russia is on the Security Council of the UN, so whenever the council tries to deem Russia a security threat, they can just deny the action.

The only thing that the United Nations can do to alleviate the situation between Russia and Ukraine is to write a strongly worded letter about how they disapprove of the war and want it to end immediately. Obviously, Russia is not going to listen to a letter, so it will not do anything to stop the invasion of Ukraine.

The United Nations as a whole is an ineffective entity because for almost all global issues or conflicts they can say that they approve or disapprove of the situation. The United Nations is necessary when it comes to maintaining peace and good relations between nations of the world, but they are very ineffective when it comes to matters of security because they are the closest thing the world has to a world government.
