Games Workshop may not be a household name, but self-proclaimed nerds around the world praise the hobby company for the creation of Warhammer. However, Games Workshop has recently made many copyright claims against fans for using their intellectual property to make fan animations, lore videos, and gameplay of licensed games.
Many people in the community are far from happy about this, as it has taken down internet titans of animation. Only a few were offered a job to continue to work on their passion. Even then Games Workshop felt the need to crush large amounts of the community’s passion.
The public outcry of fans is large, to say the least. Those who are not even affected by this, causal players, people who only are here due lore, and people who know this in passing agree that this is not just a bad business practice but also morally bankrupt.
One of the juggernauts of Warhammer fandom was the owner of “If The Emperor Had A Text To Speech Device,” an animator known as Bruvah Alfbusa, who had to quit the passion project due to Games Workshop cracking down on him. In his latest video, he stated, “I am in no place to dedicate however many years to fight a legal battle…especially with my newborn son in the equation.”
Games Workshop seems to not care about their fans. Personally, I will continue to enjoy the lore, but until they fix this mistake, I suggest no one spends money on their projects.
