Davis Boles is a junior on the Middle Creek soccer team and is one of the team captains. He’s been on the team since freshman year, playing on varsity since his sophomore year. He’s been playing soccer since he was five years old. Not only does he play for Middle Creek, but he also plays for Wake FC. He says that balancing school, club practices, and school practices is “very stressful. But when the season's in, we normally only have about two games a week, and then on the days in between we get to rest, so it’s not too bad.”
He says his favorite part about being on the team is that it’s “more fun than club” because he enjoys “more of a fun environment while also competing with friends.” He says the best part about playing is “showing up, watching JV, and then warming up with music in the background with all your friends and getting hype.”
What makes him a good captain? “Ever since freshman year, I’ve been more inclusive of everyone on the team and I’ve been a leader on the field by communicating with my teammates.”
As people get older, playing a sport gets harder and harder. Boles says that the thing that keeps him motivated to keep playing is “my teammates, because if I didn’t have the people who were on the team right now at Middle Creek, I wouldn’t play at all.” He also says “they encourage me to keep playing because they’ve been there for me and they’ve always been my friends.” Although he’s been playing soccer for 11 years, he doesn’t plan on playing in college.
The Middle Creek soccer team made it to the playoffs and have already won their first two games, including a 2-1 victory over Apex Friendship on November 4th.Their next game is at New Hanover High School in Wilmington on Monday, November 7th, at 6pm.
