Staff Spotlight: Mrs. Mercado

Mrs. Mercado is the school Guidance Clerk here at MCHS. She has worked at this school for almost three years after working at an elementary school and has nothing but favorable things to say about working here. Her favorite part about her job is being able to interact with the students at Middle Creek. “I love every single one of you,“ she said cheerfully.“ The ones that come in who are mad as heck, the ones that are crying, the ones that are just so happy with joy, I love it all!”

Although she loves her job here at MCHS, Mercado didn’t always know what career path she wanted to pursue. After consulting with her counselor and taking on a summer job at a library, she finally decided she wanted to be a librarian or work in guidance, and we’re happy to know that she chose the latter. Outside of school, she enjoys making felt Christmas ornaments, gardening, and spending quality time with her family.

As a child, Mrs. Mercado was very outgoing and fun-loving, and she loved learning new things. Whether it was working outside with her grandfather, or cooking inside with her grandmother, Mercado cherished quality time with family since she was a child.

As a teenager, she was still out-going and enjoyed hanging out with friends. “We had no technology, so we would go roller skating, go to the drive-in movie theater, or hang out with the boys on the corner.” She says, with a hint of nostalgia in her voice, “before I could hang out with all my friends, I had to make sure that all my chores were done because my mom was very strict.”

She met her husband when she was a teenager. He was her best friend’s brother, and at first she didn’t like him. Now, Mrs. Mercado and her husband, Victor, have been married for 36 years. They have 2 loving children, Taylor, who’s 30, and Christian, who’s 24. She loves her family very dearly and considers them to be one of her biggest accomplishments in life. Mercado also said that her biggest regret would be not saving enough money to retire. Not to worry, Mrs. Mercado loves working at MCHS and wouldn’t leave for the world.
