Mr. White is one of the assistant principals here at Middle Creek. You might have seen a 6' tall man walking around who enjoys ¨seeing what is going on ahead of [him], especially in the crowded hallways¨.
He has been an assistant principal for 11 years but this is his first year here at MCHS. He says his favorite part of being an assistant principal is being able to help students and teachers to be the best version of themselves. He enjoys seeing people be successful and gain more confidence in who they are.
Although it's his first year at the Creek, he's been an AP at West Forsyth High School located in Clemmons, NC. For Mr. White, being an AP was “more like a calling to be there for people who may need assistance with being great.” He attended Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia, for two years, playing football and basketball. He then transferred to Livingstone College and earned his degree in Social Work. When I asked what he sees himself doing in five years he said, “I will be retired and running my private practice for counseling.”
Some students might think their ride to school and back home is a long way, but Mr. White drives one hour each way to ”make it back home to [his] lovely wife.” He also has a daughter who is 28 years old and a son who is 20 years old. His son is away at college, so neither of his kids live at home.
Now that his kids are not living at home, he can try to cross off some of the things on his bucket list, which consists of the following: “be debt-free; to see a football game in Michigan at the Big House; visit Hawaii; visit Paris; see my favorite team, the Los Angeles Lakers play in their arena; and see my former players play a game in the NFL at their home stadium.¨
In addition to his bucket list, Mr. White has been working on achieving his goals. He just completed his Masters in Social Work and is working on getting his full license to counsel. When Mr. White was asked what advice he would give his younger self, he said, ¨To manage money, save money, and purchase a car to drive until the wheels fall off.¨ Some advice he would give a student is ¨know who you are and love who you are, and do not worry what others think about you.¨ In addition, "treat people like you want to be treated, and you may have to treat people better than they expect to be treated."
If you ever see Mr.White, don't be afraid to say Hi!
