SkillsUSA students continue to excel

One of the most decorated programs at Middle Creek is SkillsUSA. This is a program that is required for all students in the Engineering Academy and Digital Media Academy at Middle Creek, but it is open for other students to join as well. It is one of the largest clubs at Middle Creek and has continually brought home State and National awards, all celebrating the great work in the program!

SkillsUSA is a nonprofit, nationwide organization that teaches middle school through college-aged students important skills that they can use in the classroom and later on in future careers.

Claire Dates and Savannah Waiden are part of the SkillsUSA team at Middle Creek

The overarching framework of the program consists of many categories that students can compete in and try to win state or national level competitions. Competitor Claire Dates, a Digital Media Academy student, has achieved many awards throughout her time at Middle Creek in SkillsUSA. Claire says she is most proud of “the fact that my partner, Savannah Waiden, and I placed second nationally in the CareerSafe National Youth Safety Contest in 2021.” Claire is competing again this year and is currently in first place among the finalists. She will find out in June the winners of this contest.

Claire thinks the most valuable part of the program is the lessons about pushing yourself to do your best. “The SkillsUSA competitions are not easy things, especially when it comes to the national level. It hasn’t been easy, and there have been multiple times when we wanted to give up and almost did. However, each time, we were encouraged by our teachers to not give up, despite our difficult circumstances. I’ve learned that even if it’s something you love, like I love creating short films, it won’t be easy or as enjoyable as you hope for it to be.”

These lessons can be applied to many aspects of life and being involved in a rigorous program like SkillsUSA at Middle Creek can impact students in ways beyond the club.

Congratulations to all of the SkillsUSA current and former students on all of their accomplishments! Middle Creek is extremely proud of all of you!

2022 Awards

Of the 27 students competing in the State Competition, every student placed in the top 5 for their event, and 18 of the 27 students qualified for the National Conference in June, held in Atlanta.

Additionally, many of these students also produced, directed, and live -streamed the opening ceremony, post-secondary awards, and secondary award ceremonies.
