Relationships: How to Find the Right Friend for You

As a new school year begins, everyone will have new opportunities to make new friends. Some questions that you may need answered first are what makes a person someone to avoid? How do you find the right friends? and How can you help friends you already have?

There are many types of people in a school building. The ones to avoid more than others are the kids in school that may lead you off the right track and into situations you don’t want.

In this day and time teens are led so much by peer pressure that it's affecting their lives in unhealthy ways. If a good kid gets mixed up with these wrong crowds, it could affect their future negatively. Because of this you could soon find your grades dropping, along with many other negative outcomes.

Peer pressure can also get you into situations where your newfound friends pressure you into helping them bully someone else. Either physically through fists or mentally, bullying can leave a toll on someone in more ways than one. Always avoid people who take part in bullying others.

Your new friends shouldn't be bad role models for you, they shouldn’t continuously pressure you into things you don't want or agree with, and their attitudes and attributes should fit that of your own. By using these three things, you can and will find the right friends for you.

Sometimes at any point in a friendship you may notice your friends acting differently than usual. These changes in attitude can vary from passive aggression to irritation, depending on the person. No matter the situation, the best way to handle it is to either point it out to them in a gentle, non-aggressive tone or, if necessary, to take a step back from the relationship for the time being.

Many times the root of the problem is the stress our friends are under. As teens sometimes we forget that other people have problems, too. Many times these problems are bigger than our own. You don't know what stress is on your friend at this time in their life. All you can do is be there for them through it even if they choose not to tell you what it is. That is what it means to be a true friend.
