Mustang athletes make their college decisions official

Four Middle Creek athletes have signed their National Letters of Intent (NLIs) for college. James Strohbusch, Mike Venditti, Cooper Chasse, and McKenna Zelna will be continuing their athletic careers next year.

James Strohbusch signed with USC Upstate for baseball. He is an outstanding pitcher who brings the heat. He throws lower 90’s and is expecting to be a huge impact on Middle Creek for his senior season. When asked why he chose USC Upstate, he stated, “The program is on the uprise and I want to be a part of that.”

Mike Venditti signed with Queens University for baseball. He is a returning starter that is a quick and smooth shortstop. He batted .298 for the season last year and is expecting another huge year for the Mustangs. When asked why he chose Queens University, he stated, “They have added a lot around the campus, most importantly the baseball field the past couple of years. The atmosphere is very welcoming and I'm excited to be a part of that.”

Cooper Chasse signed with University of Mary Washington for baseball. He is a quick outfielder that can play all three positions. He has a very strong arm that will help limit the other team's running game and also a powerful bat. When asked why he chose University of Mary Washington, he stated, “It is a small, good academic school with a growing baseball program that would give me the opportunity to play from the start.”

McKenna Zelna signed with UNC Charlotte for volleyball. She was first team all-conference her sophomore year and also led the conference in total digs and in digs per set this year. She led the Mustangs volleyball team to the third round in playoffs this year. When asked why she chose UNC Charlotte, she stated, “I love the campus, they have a good program for my major, and the coaches/players were super nice and welcoming. They also have a bunch of programs to help student athletes stay caught up which made me more comfortable with the idea of having to miss classes.”

Congratulations to all four of these Mustang athletes on their accomplishments. Signing day in the Spring will be on May 1, 2022.
