Middle Creek Football Mid-Season Summary and Panther Creek Preview

The Middle Creek Mustangs have a big game today versus the Panther Creek Catamounts. These two teams lead the conference, both with an in-conference record of 3-0. They will be playing to see who takes the lead in the conference with only three games left, which is why this is such an important game for both schools.

The Mustangs started off the season with a tough loss to Fuquay-Varina, losing 21-14. They then came back and held Garner to a shutout, making the Mustangs 1-1. The Mustangs played Pinecrest, an out-of-conference game the following week and came up short, losing 16-7. This is what flipped the switch for the Mustangs. Middle Creek beat Holly Springs for the second consecutive year by the score of 21-12.They outscored their next two opponents, Green Level and Green Hope, 94-20. This resulted in two big wins.

Adam Booker and Chad Kearns have played huge roles this season. Not only in games, but also in practice. They are always telling teammates to do the drills correctly and take them seriously. Booker’s mantra is “how hard you practice will show in game.” Players go by this quote every week, even after a big win, knowing they always have to be prepared and looking forward to the next game.

The Mustangs will need to win Friday night against Panther Creek to control the top seed in the SWAC. Their next three games will be against Apex, Apex Friendship, and Cary. The ideal situation for the Mustangs is to win the next four and not have to rely on other schools for a wildcard spot.
