Middle Creek Falls to Pinecrest

The Middle Creek Mustangs hosted the Pinecrest Patriots on Friday, September 3rd, in an out of conference game. After a dominating win against Garner, the Mustangs looked to continue the streak and defeat the undefeated Patriots. However, their offense was shut down, leaving them with a 16-7 loss.

Seconds into the game, Jaden Baptists picked off Chad Kearns to score, giving the Patriots a 7-0 edge. Later in the quarter, the Mustangs started driving as Chad Kearns passed it to Tate Jones for a 40-yard gain to get to the Patriots’ 30 yard line, but the Patriots defense was able to stop them.

The Mustangs were able to get their offense started in the second quarter. Tate Jones carried the football across the goal line from six yards out to tie up the score at 7-7 after Finn Borror’s extra point.

Coming out of the locker room after halftime, both teams played tremendous defense. The only scoring play in the second half was a pick-six for the Patriots by Kesler Atkinson in the fourth quarter. This would be enough for the Patriots to get the win.

Kearns was the leading passer for the Mustangs with 190 yards. David Hoskins had four catches and gained 70 yards, both team highs.

This week, Middle Creek (1-2) will travel to Holly Springs to play the Hawks. Pinecrest (3-0) will host Grimsley in a matchup of undefeated teams.
