How To Find A Book Fit For You

Picking a book is honestly a hard process. First, you have to figure out what type of genre you like (eg, romance, horror, science fiction, fiction, young adult, new adult, etc.). Then you have to figure out what type of commitment you want to make. Do you want a book only around 100-200 pages, or a 400-600 page book?

I interviewed a published author, Carol Rummage, and asked her if she had any advice on how to find a book. She said to start by asking yourself some questions like, “What are some other books you have read that you liked?” Try to find something in that same genre. If you haven’t ever read a book that you’ve liked, ask a friend or a librarian for suggestions. Don’t be afraid to ask questions about a book someone suggests. Rummage says, “I would ask the person more questions about what they like in that book.” That way, it’s easier to find out if you will like that book or not.

I also interviewed Laurel Sumner, one of our librarians here at Middle Creek, and she said, “If you look and you are still a little stuck, try going to your school’s destiny discover page.” This site lists the newer books and can help you find a book you are interested in. If you need any more help looking, go to the Middle Creek library and ask Mrs. Sumner or Mrs. Dextre.

After you’ve found a book or two you are interested in, you need to look at the reviews. You can use Google to look up the book or you could use Goodreads. Check to see if the book is to your liking and if other people who have read it liked the book.

Now you pick how you want to buy this book. Barnes & Noble is one of the most reliable stores to buy from if you want a paperback or hardcover, though I recommend you check their website or call to make sure the book or books you want are in stock. If they do not have the book you are looking for, or you don’t have time to go stop by the store, you can use Amazon and order the book online. If you don’t want a physical copy of the book you can buy it on a Kindle or elsewhere online. You can also purchase it on Audible and listen to your book there.

Once you’ve gotten your book, you can settle down in a nice comfy spot with a hot drink and read to your heart's content. Good luck on your search for the perfect book for you!
