House passes bill to legalize marijuana

On April 1st, the United States House of Representatives passed a bill that would legalize marijuana on the federal level. This bill, if passed, would eliminate criminal penalties for drug-related possession and manufacturing charges.

The bill was passed by a slim margin, with a 220-204 vote. The bill is popular with Democrat lawmakers and fairly unpopular with Republican lawmakers.

The bill is likely to be stopped in the Senate, as most bills never make it through both houses of Congress. This is rather unfortunate because the legalization of marijuana on the federal level would be a tremendous benefit to the United States of America.

The government would tax marijuana and gain a giant new source of revenue to be spent. States that legalized marijuana such as Oregon gained $200 million in tax revenue after their first year of legalization.

Many feel that marijuana is relatively harmless and is not even the most dangerous drug out there. Most people that argue for legalization make the argument that alcohol is way more dangerous when compared to marijuana, and there is a lot of truth in that statement. It is impossible to overdose on marijuana and alcohol has much more of a damaging impact on a person if it is abused.

The legalization of marijuana is a no-brainer question and would be a success if implemented.
