Animal Suffering at SeaWorld Must be Stopped

While some people enjoy zoos and animal parks, many people don’t understand the living conditions the animals are being forced to live in. For example, the animals that live at SeaWorld are at risk of dying. I think that SeaWorld should free all the animals and let them live out their lives. Animals should not be trapped and taken from their families like this.

One thing most people talk about is how they shouldn’t be living in small tanks because they’re used to a big ocean. According to SeaWorld Fact Check, “SeaWorld Orlando’s habitat is 36 feet deep and holds more than 6 million gallons.” While this may seem large, it is microscopic in comparison to a natural ocean habitat.

According to SeaWorld of Hurt, over the years “approximately 400 pinnipeds (seals, sea lions, and walruses) have died at SeaWorld parks.” SeaWorld often keeps dolphins, whales, and other animals trapped with incompatible tankmates. The tension leads to fights and even fatal injuries. SeaWorld of Hurt continues, “Orcas break their teeth from chewing on the metal bars and concrete walls of their tanks.”

When SeaWorld captures the animals, they get taken from their families. According to SeaWorld Of Hurt, during the capture of one orca, “her mother was shot with a harpoon and killed right in front of her.” This Orca named Kasatka was captured on October 26, 1978 and moved locations 14 times in 8 years. She was used for breeding, and they took her babies away from her.

In addition, a whale named Corky has been trapped at SeaWorld since she was captured on December 11, 1969. She has since been impregnated six times, and thousands of people want her to be released.

People shouldn't support places like this because all the money they make influences them to keep getting more animals and trapping them. The next time you take a trip to SeaWorld or to a zoo, please consider spending your money supporting the release of these animals instead.
