Series Review: Floor is Lava

What is Floor is Lava?

Floor is Lava is a Netflix gameshow hosted by Rutledge Wood based on the children’s game of the same name. There are three teams of three people pitted against each other for a “cash prize of $10,000” and a trophy in the shape of a volcano.

The game features different rooms that contestants compete in, like the kitchen, bedroom, a study, and even a planetarium. As Rutledge Wood says, “Anything and everything in the room is in play,” which basically means that the contestants can use anything they see in the room to help them get to the end of the room. But as soon as they step into the room, the stairs start to sink, and the contestants have to get to the end of the room as fast as possible while the stairs are still above the lava. If two people get eliminated from the team, that team won’t be able to compete anymore. If one team makes it across with all three people in, say, eight minutes and sixteen seconds, and another team makes it across with all three people, whichever team has the faster time will win.

Review of the Show

This show gets a five star rating because of how each group of contestants faces the room that they’re in and the comedy that ensues. Out of all the episodes in the first season, my favorite is the first episode because all the groups work together really well. The Virzi triplets in particular are fun because even though you can kind of tell them apart, they all have a really wicked sense of humor and good teamwork skills.

If you haven’t already, give this show a shot on Netflix. You’ll be glad you did.
