Remembering Pop Smoke

Pop Smoke was an American rapper from Brooklyn, New York. Pop smoke passed in 2020, but his managers are still dropping his unreleased music in 2021.

Pop Smoke’s managers have dropped two albums since his passing. His second posthumous album, Faith, dropped on Friday, July 16, 2021, four days before what would've been his 22nd birthday. The album is filled with unfinished records, demos and reference tracks.

The song “Good News“ is an intro including a spiritual speech from his mother. According to Pop Smoke’s mother, this album wasn’t for income. Instead, it was because his mother wanted to keep “Pop’s legacy alive.“ Pop Smoke has a song named “Tell The Vision,“ and in this song I feel like he left a message for his mother that he wanted to make his mother proud. I can say this album is different from any of his other albums.

Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon was the biggest rap album of 2020 and was also charted on the Billboard Hot 100 in its first week of release. Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon, also released posthumously, had over 948,000 sales that year. During this 19-track album, Pop Smoke changes the tempo in some of his songs. Some songs, like “What You Know Bout Love” and “Something Special,” have a slower tempo, while “Enjoy Yourself'' has a faster beat and is up-tempo. “Something Special“ is what some would call an “old school“ song, to the point where some would say it's more R&B than Hip-Hop.

These albums really brought his name back into the world after his death. Pop Smoke's death was a tragic loss for the music industry and for others around the country. He was an amazing artist and was well respected by most.
