Carolina Hurricanes climbing in the Metro Division

After coming off of a four-game winning streak, the Carolina Hurricanes are first in the Metropolitan Division. As of January 31, the Hurricanes have 64 total points, just 2 above the New York Rangers. When asked about the team's performance over the last week Rod Brind'Amour says that he is “pleased” with the performance of the team, according to Brett Finger. The Hurricanes are also doing better than expected, considering they have had a lot of injured players. Now they almost have a completely healthy roster to take them to more wins.

What the Hurricanes need to do to keep a steady pace at the number one spot in the Metro Division is keep a healthy roster and make sure everyone is on point. According to www.newsobserver.com/sports/nhl/carolina-hurricanes, Rod Brind’Amour states that he is “It can’t just be flash, you’ve got to have the grit and the grind part of your game because the National Hockey League is so hard”. Rod believes that they will get better as a team as the season goes on.

The Hurricanes are in a dead period right now. The week of February 5 is All-Star Week. When asked about the dead period, Brind'Amour states that it's “good to have a break from hockey.” Rest is always important to be a great athlete. This rest period will be a good time for the Hurricanes to recover from injuries, catch up with family, and fuel up before the next game. The Hurricanes players will rest up this week to perform well next week.

Svechnikov on fire

Andre Svechnikov has had a multi-game point streak that ended January 27 against the Ottawa Senators with a shootout goal. He had back-to-back winning goals in the road trip games vs New Jersey and San Jose. Svechnikov had 7 goals and 9 assists in the 12 games the Canes played in January. Svechnikov is working on how to control his temper when playing. His 51 penalty minutes are a team-high.

Aho takes great leadership.

Sebastian Aho has helped lead this team into a great spot in the metro. His versatile playing style has made him a great asset to the team. Aho is always there when needed.

Goaltending

Frederik Andersen, the starting goalie for the Canes, has held the team in many games. Andersen has a .929 save percentage with a 2.12 goals-against average. This year the main show has been around Anderson because of back goalie Antti Raanta’s injuries. When both goalies are on fire the Canes are unstoppable.

The Hurricanes next game is on February 8 against the Ottawa Senators. To be able to win this game the Canes need to get back into the groove of things. The past few games have been close even though the Canes are playing low seed-teams.
